Good point Re: hand puppets, above. This 1961 kid grew up walliwong in puppets and remembers the wild creepy assortment that they used to have at "Pier One" stores, as well as the bizarre things that my friends-who-travelled-in-Europe-a-lot's kid's had, weird model kits that you didn't see here, wind-ups and puppets. Gawd, it makes my mouth water. Those nice muppet-replica puppets that happened in the 'seventies came on the tail end of my puppet obsessions. I remember doing really wild, foul and racy routines in front in front of adults with my Big Bird puppet (not my fave, even) and putting them on the floor in convulsions of laughter.
